I would ask them to explain why this was an issue. Plus why are the
babies having bottles long before the first breastfeed. We are currently
writing our procedure for Prems and BF and have started with the first
sucking feed will be a breastfeed.

The research strongly supports the ease of breastfeeding over the
stress of bottle feeding ie in oxygen saturation, etc.

Do they have meetings that you should be a part of so that you can
raise the issue there to the whole group?

From Betty
Once a baby is almost going home and many times after the persistence
of the parent I get called to the Lactation Room in NICU to assist this
mom. Without going into details today I was told that beginning today I
needed a doctor's order before this babies can begin to breastfeed, even
though these babies have been bottle feeding for so long and almost
going home, the excuse was to monitor baby's intake..please illuminate
me in this long journey of resistance! Is this the norm? I've been here
for almost 3 yrs and this is the first I hear of this.

thanks! (from Betty)
