Re my post about the mom who has severe pain on opposite breast when baby
nurses, and also has a cyst on her thyroid(mom has the cyst): the baby is now
14 pounds at 6 weeks (birthweight was 5'13) and mom has lost 75 pounds (she
had gained 45 pounds during pregnancy). Is it normal for a baby to gain this
much in 6 weeks?!
Her WIC nutritionist feels that perhaps mom is in pain from so much pressure
in the breast because of the huge milk volume; we both thought mom might pump
from the "unused" side while breastfeeding, although there was a problem with
engorgement in the beginning, so mom is reluctant to do this. Any other
thoughts? Thanks, Sarah and Diane for your input.
