I have mothers permission to post.

I have racked my brains over this one and I am now putting out to my wise
colleagues in hope that one you will shed some light on my problem.

I have a mother with a NICU baby, gestational age at birth 29 weeks, now 2
weeks old. 30 year old primigravida.Unremarkable history. No H/O breast
surgery or insufficient glandular tissue.Breast pump horns fit perfectly and
she pumps using a Medela 'symphony' q 10-12 times daily with no
discomfort. This mom also uses hand expression after pumping. The problem is
that she expresses 36 oz from her right breast and only drops from her left.
She had slightly less output from her left breast initially but it has
dwindled to almost nothing in two weeks. I have suggested power pumping once
a day on the left breast in addition to her regular pumping  - this was not
successful -  I hesitate to suggest any galactogogues in view of the
prematurity of her infant. I have reviewed her diet and mother is an
intelligent, compliant person. Lactogenisis 2 on day 3.
I would be grateful for your input.
