Finding time to teach staff can be frustrating when all else is busy. I have
nurses coming to me with questions about certain issues, staying to watch
what I do with a Mom, offering to follow me on their own time, after
report/before their rounds...asking me for an update on their breastfeeding
Moms. Open yourself to them so they will come and seek you out thereby
building commaradarie/education. I also e-mail to all (every position within
our department) little quips on occassion to educate/reinforce/remind them of
breastfeeding issues/updates. Whenever a Mom has (even after discharge)
questioned something she was told....I use that as an e-mail opportunity to
educate the staff. With customer satisfaction being a huge campaign
nowadays.....we want to decrease/even eliminate the conflicting information
Moms receive from the many people they encounter. Our Team Leader also
offers me 10 minutes at unit meetings to give some type of update/inservice.
