Hi Donna
There is a paper in the current Journal of Human Lactation about the process
of purchasing formula in order to become Baby-Friendly, written by myself and
Dr Bobbi Philipp. I hope you will find the article and the cites useful. To
answer your question, following Baby-Friendly policies /The Ten Steps raises
breastfeeding rates; and you cannot become Baby-Friendly if you accept free
formula. Giving free formula to mothers on discharge adversely affects
breastfeeding rates; that is well referenced.
