I think another factor to consider about the obstacles to bf is the lack of
role models in this country. Our little girls don't always grow up seeing
women bf. I try to point this out to moms who bf their second and third
babies. The wonderful role model they are for their older children, to see mom
bf the new baby.
As a visiting nurse in a maternal/childhealth program, I see many moms who bf.
Some very young, teenage, and some older. I do find that many of the moms I
see, who are bf, are not Americans.  They come from countries where bf is the
norm. The problem I have is they all think they *have* to give formula, along
with the bf. I set them straight on that imediately!
