Thanks for sending on that post! One of the main reasons I chose to
breastfeed my children is the scary stuff I learned while dating my husband
(and not just about him either! hahaha ;-), a third generation family
co-owner of Washington's oldest environmental testing lab. Not only is it
scary what goes into our drinking water, whether they add it or it seeps in,
but that also goes into the cow feed, feeding fields, and soy fields.
Sometimes they have to test it continuously because some plant and animal
farms use high levels of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, hormones,
antibiotics, etc, and of course we've heard of mad cow disease.

A few posters said it right, everything on our earth is contaminated - we'd
basically starve to death if we tried to avoid foods or liquids that we didn
t think were contaminated with one thing or another. I'm not saying it's
right. I have to justify what I feel is right to ingest, because the
amounts of every creepy thing in almost every food/water supply is growing
daily. At least by nursing, I can see to it that I eat foods that I am
comfortable with and so do our kids.

Without a doubt, mother's milk will always be the "purest of the pure" no
matter what anyone says.

Now if I can only get my husband to test my breastmilk out of sheer
curiosity and compare it to other local soil/water levels, I'd be happy!
Anyone want to send me a list of contaminants to test for (besides PCBs,
atrazine, cyanazine and chocolate ;-)?

Thanks to everyone on this list who takes the time and effort to educate,
inform and inspire! Keep up the gold work, Lactnet!
