Dear Folks:
So the LC is asked to teach about bottle feeding...is this possible?
Yes, it is possible. The first job is for the LC to clear her heart and teach
people how to bottle-feed safely and well so that the baby will receive an
optimal experience. How else can we help the mother who chooses this option?
So teach her about:
        - recording lot numbers of each can ( in case of recalls or class
action suits)
-using ready to feed (powdered has high aluminum levels and less
precursors to vital things for infant brain growth; water can be contaminated
with bacteria, high in chlorine and possible lead if she lives in an old
house)
-switching sides during feeds(for brain and eye development)
-keeping the baby away from any sickness or infection (because there
is greater chance of illness)
-never using soy or lacto-free (because of the phytoestrogens and
lack of lactose that may compromise bone development)
-learning and using baby massage (because of lack of contact and
grooming during feeds)
        - never propping a bottle (because of choking, ear infections, death
and loneliness)
-co-sleeping or rooming in (to reduce risk of SIDS)
-throwing what ever is left after 2 hours (because it starts spoiling
right away)
I have found that doing this with a pure heart gets a class's
attention. Setting the tone by starting with the bit about recording lot
numbers because of recalls due to contamination makes people prick up their
ears. They know about recalls of manufactured products; such things are on
the news all the time. The idea that formula is a manufactured product never
occurs to people. Telling people these things with the goal of sincerely
helping is the key; telling them with the attitude that formula is awful will
make them defensive. Good luck! Warmly, Nikki Lee
