Maryelle,
We miss your baby-friendly practices SO much here in San Antonio. (Can you
tell by the number of referrals to you by phone in the last 6 months?!) So
many of our pediatricians, OB/GYNs, and nurses give information that is not
necessarily medical in nature, more of a child raising method based on
personal opinions! Just today I had a "friendly discussion" at the mom's
bedside with a pedi nurse about spoiling a baby. She used the old "crying is
good for the lungs" line. So kindly, and with a smile, I turned to the mom
and said, "That must mean that bleeding is good for the veins." Then quoted
my favorite research of the moment about dendrite growth with touching. This
mother was ready to quit after only 36 hours of trying!! She wanted to hold
and cuddle her new son, and the nurse was not giving her permission to do
just that. Too many times, I feel alone in my baby-advocacy.

Speaking of babies, has your newest made her/his arrival yet??
