Dear Everyone,

I posted 2 or 3 months ago about a local hospital asking me to
start teaching their prenatal breastfeeding classes. This hospital
decided that it would be better to pay me as a per diem employee than a
contract one, so that (if necessary) I could see patients on the unit. I
also mentioned that this hospital didn't have the best track record when
it came to breastfeeding rates, and had in fact kicked out La Leche
League several years before.

So far so good, as far as my teaching assignment goes. Thank you
all for your great suggestions about prenatal B/F classes. My dream of a
B/F clinic could wait.............

        ZAP!!!!!! Divine Intervention!!!!!!!

A local once-a-week newspaper ran a story on Wednesday about
another hospital in the area, run by the same big corporation, opening a
lactation center. I knew about this, and know and like the LC who has
been instrumental in getting it going. The divine intervention part was
that the newspaper saw the corporate name and assumed that it was MY
hospital!

        The headline read:
         *(Margie's Hospital) Opens Lactation Center*

The article was accurate, and described my friend's program, as well as
location and telephone numbers.

Thursday morning I received a panic telephone call from my
supervisor stating that since the headline was all someone might read,
we'd better get a lactation center going!

Ok, now I get to start a Lactation Center. No funds to speak of,
no real space, but there are some supplies I could use, and an office I
could borrow....(the semester just started at the community college, and
I'm still teaching maternity nursing clinicals 2 days a week. But like
the rest of you, What's one more thing?)

Oh boy! What Fun! I'm so excited! Really! I had figured it
would take years to get this hospital off the ground for this sort of
thing. Course, now I'll need some suggestions, universal codes, how do
others do this sort of thing, etc. I'll take any and all suggestions. I
do have some ideas, but haven't really thought out how to implement them.
If you would privately e-mail me your phone number, I might need to call
you.

Wow! Just when I said I didn't like this new year, God gave me a
reason to get up off my butt and do some good work.

Margie Forrest.

ps, my cold is finally gone. Good thing!
