Re:  the recent discussion, I wonder if anyone has seen the following:
Breastfeeding and weight change in newborns in Jamaica, Jolly, PE et al
Child: Care, Health and Development 2000 26(1) 17- 27 ??

They found that most infants in the study gained weight in the first three
days, and several factors influenced weight gain at 24 days(birth weight,
mother's education level, whether the baby cried before feeds, and length of
feeding periods).  They also discovered a negative association between
weight gain (at day 7) and difficulty during feeding (as described by the
mothers).  Wouldn't it be great if this study were replicated with a
population from a more developed type country?
