Keitha,
We have enough adoptive moms at present to have formed a breastfeeding support
group for adoptive moms. Some of the women have never had previous children,
some of them have had children and previously breastfed. Nobody has gotten
colostrum after inducing a milk supply or relactating. The milk the moms
report (almost got a photo of FIRST drops - but camera jammed!) is a pre-milk
that is not the same as colostum, but is not quite mature milk - maybe
transitional milk might be an appropriate description except that that name is
already taken. Oh well, any ideas? Since there are volumes of info on the
subject out there we are kind of learning and sharing as we go. It has been
marvelous for the moms who were generally encouraged to try by their doctors,
but told not to be dissapointed if nothing came of it. We have focused on new
perspectives on success and they are all such fabulous and dedicated moms! It
is an honor to associate with them. Thank you for providing a forum where I
can share a bit about their story.
