Alicia's acquaintance who has weaned her 5 yo: you say she's due soon. How
soon? I haven't worked with many people prenatally so can only provide my
anecdotal personal experience that my breasts felt quite full and swollen in
the month before I delivered my first.... and I was able to express
substantially more than drops in the shower. The sensation was similar to
the sore breasts of early pregnancy, only a lot *fuller*. At the time I
felt terribly guilty, afraid all that colostrum was going down the
drain........ and didn't know if what was "left" would be sufficient for
the baby. Also didn't know if I was creating a risk for premature labor or
anything (ah, ignorance is bliss!). But the discomfort was significant and
expressing provided relief. (He was born 5 days post dates, I had an
apparent plentiful supply of colostrum, and my milk came in at three days,
so in this extremely unscientific study, nothing was changed by the
unconventional procedures followed prenatally!)
