Dear Jan,
Thank you so much for your information! It was very helpful! Also thanks
for the acceptance and encouragement you give those of us in training. I
really appreciate it!
I have another question for you now. Where would I get a hold of a copy of
the requirements needed to be able to take the IBLCE exam? Also, how do
prove the hours that you spend working with people to meet the hourly
requirements? Do you have to have an IBCLC mentor verify the hours for you?
Or is it an honor ssystem?
The more I learn the more I realize how much I have to learn. I have clients
who tell me how much I know, and I have to chuckle because I feel like such a
babe in the woods! Sure I know the basics, but I couldn't tell you how to
help a baby latch on to an inverted nipple, or diagnose a suck problem, tonic
bite or correct a latch that looks right on the outside but has a lot of
clicking going on on the inside (current prob I'm getting help on). So when
people ask if I'm an LC, I guess I could (legally) tell them I am, but
morally I could never do that, because I want to be board cert. before I call
myself an LC. Call me anal. But I always try to do things the right way,
and in this field I won't 'guess' on a problem that I know nothing about.
When I'm in doubt I always call for help!
Thanks a lot for the encouragement!
Janet
