Dear Margaret,

Thank you for you comments and ideas re: weighing babies at support
group.

I just started our support group back in OCT 2000 and modeled the group
after the groups from 2 local Sharp hospitals, which both have a scale
available. The LC who ran the group at Sharp said that the moms really
like to monitor their babies growth.

No, weight is not a routine part of check-in for the support group. The
vast majority of the moms coming to group have babes under 6 weeks, so
it is reassuring to them to see that, yes, indeed, their milk is helping
their babies to grow. Most of them voluntarily weigh their babes.

I did have a mom come to group with a 14lb 6 month old who was happy,
healthy, and alert, and I reassured her that all was well (he was 7 or 8
lbs at birth).

We also want to use the scale for our lactation clinic, where we may
routinely weigh babies and also use the scale for pre/post weights.
Again, most of these babies are under 112 days old.

Thanks, again for your thoughts Margaret, they are very helpful.
