Everybody's mileage may vary, but in my personal experience it were
consulting doctors who seemed to be extremely overwhelmed with the
prospect of putting the g-tube, giving parents all the wrong information
re: ng tube vs. g tube feedings. the vast majority of kids and their
parents were relieved when the g-tube was placed and were able to
concentrate on other issues, more important then everyday fight of the
kid gagging on the ng tube. Medical and developmental benefits of the
gtube in this situation aside (there were a lot of very good thoughts on
that already), don't forget about emotional stress the ng tube is
bringing on the kid and on the family. Baby is gagging and trying to get
rid of the thing, family can not take a simple "what a cute moment"
picture, can not go on an outings without everybody noticing it. NG tube
is a constant reminder that the kid is extremely sick.

Alla (who thought so many times with our consultants on insertion of
g-tubes to my special needs patients, only to hear after the procedure
"doc, why we did not do that earlier?)
