Hi Lactnetters,
When my daughter was pumping milk for her daughter this year, very
often the baby left an ounce or more leftover. At first, I used to throw
it away and then it occurred to me to drink it, as I was never breastfed
and suffer from allergies, (which is one reason I breastfed my own
children who do not have the allergy problem I do.) At first, I didn't
tell anyone but my allergies really went away considerably. It was only an
ounce or two a couple of times a week, and didn't taste bad at all! Now my
daughter is not pumping the extra milk, and my allergies seem to be back
again, although not as bad. What do you lactnetters think of this
experiment of one? I know you won't think I am as experimental as my
daughter, (actually she thought a little wierd). Does anyone have any
research on this, I think it would be a great research project for
investigation. I am thinking maybe it strengthened my immune system a
little. I did have a mom once who pumped her breastmilk for her mom with
cancer to help her a little. It was years ago, and I don't know if her mom
survived a while but at the time she said it helped her.
Warm regards,
Ellen Mahony, RN, MS, LCCE, IBCBC
