After back-to-back hurricanes here in Florida, I found myself trying to catch
up on Lactnet and experienced a profound state of deju vu. Most of us in
Florida have gotten use to that deju vu feeling--every few weeks we have
hurricanes and emmergency preparedness drills and every weekend feels like a repeat of
the last weekend.

After reading Lactnet, I felt like I was Bill Murray in "Groundhog's Day."
Here we go again, toxins in breastmilk courtesy of the Northwest Environmental
Watch group, omega 3 oils again, vitamin D, etc. I feel as bogged down by
Lactnet as by hurricanes here in Florida.

So in order to irritate only a few people, I'll just refer everyone to the
comments I made on the Northwest Environment Watch study in February of this
year on Lactnet. (February 25, 2004, #140032 of Lactnet) This current study
being publicly broadcasted is just the same study with an added 30 more
participants. Crucial information is that this particular study got funding from the
Seattle Biotech Foundation which is funded by Immunex and the corporate partner
of Immunex is Wyeth. Immunex makes artificial antibodies--monoclonal
antibodies. The making of artificial antibodies would compete with what?
Breastfeeding???

That some women and babies who participated in this study are on TV and being
"used" to broadcast this study is simply unethical. These women and babies,
particularly if they are US citizens, may be jeopardizing their ability to
receive health insurance and employment. Research participants are normally not
pushed in front of the media spotlight. Doesn't anyone else find this
odd????????? Or have we gotten so crazed by media-hype that we will accept anything?

As for omega 3 oils curing sore nipples, I bet it wards away hurricanes, too.
I read in a vitamin D study (pro-supplementation) that the vitamin D levels
in cow's milk was natural. So irradiation of cow's milk at the factory is
considered natural??? You know this would all be very funny, if it weren't so
sad. The level of propaganda used on the public by the media, industry,
industry front-groups, and government is simply mind-boggling.
