There is a case in the literature of a woman and her child that were treated
for 6 weeks. I also have treated a woman and her child for 6 weeks after a
reoccurance. I was so worried about a reoccurance again in her (but not the
baby) that I treated for 2 weeks after symptoms resolved but I decreased the
dose in the second week. I would have increased it again if her symptoms
had re-exacerbated. I treated the infant until mother's symptoms were gone
for one week.
It is not clear from your post if both are being treated for a full week
after symptoms are gone and I am not sure what dose you are using. Hale
gives two regimens one starting at 400mg followed by 200mg. and the other
200mg followed by 100 mg. I was treating with 400mg followed by 200mg,
followed by 100mg.
It sounds as if you are doing everything you can it just needs more time and
treatment. Chris Betzold MSN NP CLE
