I am looking for some information regarding additives, in the NICU setting, added to breastmilk. We currently add MCT, polycose, HMF, promod etc. to our breastmilk, usually mixing enough for 12 hours. I have heard that other NICU's are giving those additives separately, as a medication. I am interested in what other NICU's are doing and why. Have there been any problems in giving these additives in bolus form? Literature is suggesting that these additives may destroy some of the qualities of the breastmilk. I only have a few articles and if you can point me in the direction of other literature that would be helpful. I have started a literature search, have not come up with much, but that may be in my phrasing. Thanks for all your help.
