I get National Geographic, but I never read it, only look at the
pictures. I got a life membership when I was working in an Inuit
village in Northern Quebec in 1976 and for the first time had some
money.

As usual, National Geographic gets it wrong. Inuit women do not
breastfeed for the same reasons as other women do not
breastfeed--influence from "the modern world" and all that. The high
level of contaminants is incidental and was discovered long after most
were no longer breastfeeding. The general poor state of health of
Inuit children is a reflection of the low rate of breastfeeding.
