Winnie,

I so agree with your statement below:

<< The point is, if ILCLCs only see the "train wrecks" we could easily
lose sight of what is normal and start thinking of all breastfeeding
 as "high risk" and complicated!
  >>
That's why I so enjoy the support group I run, so I can see moms who never
had major problems with BFing and even those who did come out the other end
to a satisfying normal BFing relationship eventually. I also love what I
call "fairydust visits" (even before I saw your Logo, Diane!) ; those are the
easy, "fix-the-latch", inform parents of what's normal visits, that are few
and far between, but keep my sanity and perspective.

I also have a question, sort of relative to the above: anyone know how many
breastfeeding dyads "just breastfeed" without any (or at least minor)
difficulties?

Moms in my BFing class often ask this question and I tell them what I
remember from LLL days and seeing more of the norm. I also use it as a
jump-off for discussing labor/birth interventions and effects on BF, but
that's another story...

So...any statistics out there?
