Thanks for the comments so far.  It is what I expected.  I know of another mom from the Southern California area that nursed on demand a Type 1 babe until 4 with what she called "the best possible outcome".  She just checked BG levels often.  I think this doc is very unfamiliar with working with anyone who would breastfeeds as long as 15 month.  I wanted to check to make sure that there were no other concerns.  I was aware of the diet for seizures which would probably preclude breastmilk but with the Type 1 I don't know how the high fat diet would work but will pass along info to mom and continue to monitor posts.  Just FYI mom is in the Irving TX area.
