Mom is young and does not want to pump despite many requests.

This is both fascinating and sad. Is mom refusing to participate in her
baby's healthcare in any other way, such as denying the surgery, or forbidding
any other needed treatments, interventions, medications? This is
essentially what she is doing by not wanting to pump. She has the power to offer a
medical intervention that only she can provide and doesn't really get that.
Hard situation. Breastfeeding is still seen as so much of a lifestyle
choice instead of health and wellness intervention. I hope this doesn't sound
cruel, but maybe she needs to be told simply honestly that her baby needs
her milk and if she won't provide this necessary treatment she can sign a
"refusing medical intervention" form or something. Again, hard situation. No
one wants to bully a stressed mom, but...

Peace,
