My son - now 16 years old - has Moebius Syndrome - and it is not a stroke in
utero - a number of the cranial nerves to not develop and no one seems to
know the cause (fluke of nature?). My Matthew is now living in a group
home - is non-verbal, mentally impaired, autistic, etc. There are, of
course, degrees to this syndrome. He was not able to breastfeed as he had
bilateral facial paralysis and could not suck/swallow (he end up with a
tracheotomy for a year due to an aspiration pneumonia from formula - this
happened when I left him in the care of a hospital nurse and she did not
feed him as instructed) - I did pump milk and if I knew then what I know
now, I would have tried harder to breasfeed him.......
Sorry to go on so long - this is still a painful subject for me.......
Let me know, Rachel, what I can do to help......
