My client with the ongoing abscesses is healing; the incision sites are
still open and she is having them packed daily while on IV antibiotics. The
GP has ordered the l-methionine & an herbal glandular support supplement
along w/ a super-duper antioxidant formulation that has no iron to feed the
Staph. A better breastfeeding advocate would be hard to find.

BUT GET THIS...the surgeon called the GP yesterday & said that he would not
close the sites *"until she quits nursing"*. The GP said that might be
awhile, but this surgeon is serious. He told the GP that w/in *2 days* of
weaning, there shouldn't be any more milk. The GP laughed, but this surgeon
is becoming quite nasty. Yes, we can find another surgeon, but this guy has
been wearing down this couple each day. It's almost like brainwashing.
"You need to wean since this milk is causing the infection to remain." "If
you weren't nursing on the left, this right side would be completely dry."
He's totally ignorant about autocrine control and does not want educated.
Trust me, the GP has tried.

The fact that she lets down when he re-packs the sites tells me that it's
*his* stimulation that is causing the ongoing milk production. I am so
angry that I can't see straight. How would we go about formally putting
some liability for the future health of the child and mother onto this
surgeon? I'm thinking of a reverse informed consent kind of
situation...where he would sign and acknowledge all of the health issues
that are potentially created by his insistence on weaning. Any ideas? I
have to also consider the politics of the facility and the fact the GP needs
the services of this surgeon at times. I'm worn out. Six weeks of constant
battles, many of which "we've" won, are getting to me and I believe the war
may be lost because of this surgeon.
