Ariella,
I would use expressed milk if the mom had any, the babies I am usually assessing suck on are less than 24 hours old and moms milk is not in.  She may have a few drops of colostrum, but I dont see any harm in using a few drops of glucose water to cover the taste of the yucky gloves :)
