I have just finished with our monthly Girl Scout leader's meeting, AKA
Service Unit Meeting. While one of the gals, that used to be one of my
girl scouts was breastfeeding her 7 month old, AND we were discussing
diversity (a really important issue to GS) I brought up this tagalong
issue. The paid GS person at the meeting said absolutely, any child
still attached would be welcome. Her issue is with children not
attached, who are running lose and not being well supervised. This is
the West Coast, and things might be different in other places, but every
area of GS in the USA has a Diversity Policy. I would persue this issue
along two lines: Diversity, and insurance. If they are not still
breastfeeding, they need to be insured through GS. My 20+ year
experience with GS has been extremely open, and after going on many
events, I have found this to be true in other places, including all the
groups (from all over the Western Hemisphere) I enjoyed on a trip to
Mexico.
