Michelle,

Are we absolutely certain there is no possibility of abuse of any kind?
Sounds much like a "hickey" as a result of suction. Some older child
visitor??? It doesn't sound like blunt trauma since it is limited within
areola.

Also, theoretically, it is possible for children to get mastitis. Since
early ducts are present even at birth, it is possible that any mastitis
could effect the periductal tissue and cause eventual thickening of the
subareolar tissue and retraction or inversion of the nipple when puberty
changes etc. start to change the contour of the breast.

It would be most enlightening medically if someone took close-up medical
photos and followed this little one at least through the teens, to see if
there are any such sequellae.
