I believe language has been mentioned before: I have lived in Denmark where the majority of people cannot roll their 'r's. I cannot imagine that a whole nation is tongue tied and that this is the primary reason ;-)

I would like to share with you on this subject: When my eldest son went to school, the schoolnurse gave me a call about his speech: he could not roll his r. I discussed this with her and we came to the conclusion that he might have picked it up from me ( he is not raised bilangual, I did sing, speak and read to him in Danish and he watched Danish childrens programs - untill this day he can sing Postman Pat in English, Dutch and Danish!)

My other son has a beautiful rolling R: we used to challenge him to make him say words with more than 1 R in it!

So: no conclusions. Interesting to tell: the first son had been exclusively breastfed for 4 months. He cannot roll his R's and needed brackets at some point. The other son was breastfed over 4 years: never tolerated anything in his mouth like pacifiers of teats, can roll his R and never needed brackets.

> Well, the exception to the rule.... I cannot roll my 'r's - have never been able to. I don't have a tongue tie. But my husband, who _does_ have a moderate TT, can roll his 'r's beautifully! Go figure.
