Re the mother who has high cholesterol levels and the doctor has put her on
medication, and she is wondering if she should wean.

My first question would be -- Why did the doctor jump to "medication" as a
means of treating high cholesterol? Ordinarily, the first recommendations
are to change your diet (less animal fat, as in meat and dairy products,
fewer eggs, etc.), lose weight (eat less of everything) and increase your
level of physical activity (starting with a brisk 1/2 hour walk every day).
For most people, this works great. Medication should be a LAST resort, only
after she's tried the other interventions for at least six months.
