Did a home consult with a mother of a 6-week-old baby today. She and her
husband were burping the baby for 45 minutes *each* after every feed - day
and night. They have been doing this for 6 weeks - have not left the house,
mother has not had time to feed herself!

She had one of "those" books open on the table and was convinced she was an
inadequate mother with a poor milk supply because her baby did not do
exactly what the book said. Eg, after feed-bath-feed at 6pm baby did not
have a good sleep - in fact he didn't sleep at all! Oh dear! Anyway, 2
hours later she was happily feeding and baby burped all by himself within 2
minutes of doing nothing! She if off to her local LLL meeting - she needs
some TLC from other moms as she begins to relax and enjoy her baby.

Where did this obsession with burping come from? It seems to get worse year
by year.
