A mom in the breastfeeding support group was told by a psychiatrist
that because she is is on Prozac for OCD she should stop breastfeeding
immediately and "go cold turkey". Her condition mandates that she continue
the prozac. Her pediatrician told her it is probably OK to continue
breastfeeding. The baby is coming up on three months old. The mom describes
the baby as being very irritable since birth, and she has religiously deleted
many things from her diet. She admits the irritability has improved within
the last couple of weeks anyway, but is now afraid she may be giving her baby
"poison breastmilk" since the cause of the irritability may very well be the
prozac. She will continue breastfeeding exclusively until more information
can be provided.
Is anyone aware of new information on Prozac and breastfeeding? I would
appreciate any information for this woman.

                                 Thanks very much,
