My daughter and I struggled a bit with nursing - I saw 2 midwives, a doula, 2 LLLLs, and a Chiropractor. Key item, no one did an oral eval. My daughter kept 'slipping off' and we had to work very hard to keep a good latch. She nursed for just over 4 years. While I was studying for the IBCLC exam, about 3 months after she had completely weaned, both my kids were vying for my attention - and they were sticking their tongues out. Suddenly I realized my daughter couldn't stick her tongue out as far as her brother. I did an exam on both and was SO surprized to find my daughter had what I'd classify as a 4th degree tie!!! I notice it now, she's unable to make R sounds and while it's "cute" now when she's 5, I wonder if we'll have to revisit this issue as she gets older. We'll see.

I have dreams now of birthing this baby and the first thing I do is an oral exam on him! ha ha ha ha
