The Solano County Health and Social Services Department received a one-year
grant from Physician's Healthplan of California (our Medicaid carrier) for
a position which will be in charge of identifying women who are pregnant
and want to breastfeed, following up with her in the hospital and for the
first 2 months postpartum.

It is a combination of coordination of services (making sure she is
connected with all the services in place) and following up in breastfeeding
support if she needs it and the support we already have in place does not
kick in (Home Health Nurses, WIC, Public Health Nurses).

We have found there is support here, but moms don't access it or get help
until it is very late and she is usually not willing to go through the
paces that need to be done to relactate or increase milk supply that has
been compromised.

This person has to be willing to work on data gathering - as we hope to
continue the position, but need to have the data to prove its worth!

The ideal candidate is a Public Health Nurse with an IBCLC who also speaks
Spanish. Of course, there are few of these, so the bosses are willing to
compromise - an IBCLC, or a Nurse with a passion for breastfeeding -
Spanish would be helpful but not a requirement.

If anyone knows of a person interested, please have them call me or my
boss, Judy Rhoden - 707-421-6660
