Wouldn't introducing solids have to do with the timing of eruption of
primary teeth-teething babies grab things to chew on and it's often food?
Our firstborn grabbed a banana at six months and she got terrible diarrhea
and a sore bottom in her diaper from the residue. My husband and I felt
terrible and we didn't try another solid and let her just breastfeed. But
at 9 months she did fine with bananas and other finger food such as steamed
mixed vegetables on her high chair tray. Before commercial baby food and
"Happy Baby" food grinders, mothers used to masticate solid foods for their
baby. This is probably still done in areas of the world.

Dental charts show bottom center incisors erupt at 6-10 months, but we've
seen babies get them at 4 months. Upper incisors are typical at 8-10 months
but some children get them closer to 1 year.
