I agree, it *is* a weakness and does not reflect real life.

Asking about the baby is important, I would say. 
Why would it be a bad thing for sellers to ask 
about the recipient baby?

I wouldn't go as far as to say 'everything I know 
about life I learnt from Mary-Beth Lacey and 
Christine Cagney'  and neither of them was 
anything like role model,  but I was a HUGE fan 
of the show!
