If we look at ILCA's Standards of Practice for the IBCLC, we see that 
#2.3 says "Obtain informed consent from all clients prior to: assessing 
or interviewing, reporting relevant information to other health care 
professionals, taking photographs for any purpose, seeking publication 
of information associated with the consultation."

Also, this is where it says we need to do HCP reports:
#3.3.7 "Document and communicate to health care providers as 
appropriate: assessment information, suggested interventions, 
instructions provided, evaluations of outcomes, modifications of plan of 
care, follow up strategies."

Although this if from ILCA, not IBLCE, I do believe that this document 
could be used in court against an IBCLC who is being sued for not doing 
her job properly.

IBLCE's Code of Ethics #23 says "Require and obtain consent to share 
clinical concerns and information with the physician or other primary 
health care provider before initiating the consultation."  While this 
one does not say we must send an HCP report, it seems to take it for 
granted that the IBCLC will be sending a report. It doesn't say the 
report is mandatory or not.

Also, some of you have talked about a previous "Scope of Practice" but I 
am not familiar with this. All I know about is the ILCA Standard of 
Practice and IBLCEs Code of Ethics.
