You've included the sentence straight from Gabrielle Palmer's The Politics 
of Breastfeeding (p19),
so that quote is hers. She has always been meticulous about referencing and 
acknowledgment,
so she would have cited the source, if not her own words. She's also pleased 
to know that
people like the sentence.

In 2001, I asked Gabrielle Palmer about this quote, and sent this response
to Lactnet:

" ...it was me...  In fact this was the opening line of my outline to
Pandora Press when they asked me to write the book, so I actually recall
composing this in Cornwall on holiday  at Easter in 1985. Pandora liked it
and the rest is history........ it's nice to know people still enjoy that 
sentence.
It is still valid. "
