Deborah works in a hospital where products from a Code violator are
used. She asks: "As an LC, what am I to do?"

Deborah, there is NOTHING in the WHO Code that prevents you, as an IBCLC in
a clinical setting working with lactating mothers, from discussing,
using, or recommending (in a care plan) ANY product.
You can talk about pumps, talk about pump flanges ... even talk about
bottles and teats and formula. (And, yes, you should also be discussing
hand expression, but that has nothing to do with the WHO Code, and more to
do with your acumen as an IBCLC.)

(1) You are "to do" ALL of the above, as each clnical situation with a
mother presents itself to you. In fact, your IBLCE Code of Ethics AND IBLCE
Scope of Practice for IBCLCs AND ILCA Standards of Practice AND the WHO Code
itself allow for and require this.

(2) You will know you are always WHO Code-compliant if you (a) refuse to
give out free samples of products to mothers, and (b) refuse, yourself,
from taking freebies/gifts/meals/etc from the manufacturer of any
Code-related products.
