A situation arose today that I wanted to run by you all.  In L&D I saw a
mom, 40 weeks, not in labor, who had a pretty nasty vaginal yeast
infection. As she was not laboring the Doc said to send her home. I told
him about the yeast infection connection and breastfeeding and explained to
him the situation with vaginal deliveries and yeast, potential oral thrush
in the babies and of course, Yeast on the nipples. I asked him if he would
consider treating her.  His reply" I do not want to but any suppositories
inside of her as she is close to delivering."  I have never read any
contraindications to using antifungals intavaginally prior to delivery. Are
there any articals out there regarding treating vaginal yeast when delivery
is eminent.  Perhaps this is a poor time to treat? Any opinions, comments
or insight?  TIA
