This recent thread got my thinking about the limits of our LC practice - at
the early stage of in-hosptial care. For any of you out there who know more
about CST and chiropractic adjustment than I do , I have these questions:

- Can you safely do either while the infant is still hospitalized?

- To what degree might you offer CST therapy without a Dr's order for it,
either as an inpatient or on a follow-up consult. In other words is it
recognized as a "recognized discipline" or could you do CST wtihout calling
it such (thinking in print here, especiaily if faced with staff or physician
reluctance)

- If you have a baby with altered oral motor skills and you think CST may
help, what is the earliest you might recommned treatment? We already know
that chiropractic adjustment if done in the hospital, is done behind closed
doors and often without primary physician knowledge.

- What responses have you gotton from HCP's and to what degree are they
consulted/considered in the referral process......

(I think in our medically conservative area of PA, we would expect a few
raised eyebrows if we recommended these options and some who might think we
were just a little too out there - not that that has kept me from
perservering with other things)........

This is an area i think that is ripe for LC's to naturally gravitate towards
as we become increasingly aware of our inability to acheive sucess with no
latch babies, who are sometimes, way traumatized by the current state of
affairs in the L&D suites of most American hospitals,or by the natural state
of birth period. As I worked today with a vaginally birthed breech baby who
has regressed form mostly latching well to having a "hissy fit" trying to
latch on to mom's breast today.....who really needs more than I can provide
him at this point.

Just curious and TIA for continued discussion......
