the flame-proof suit away)

This is true, but I also found the piece disturbing.  Not because I don't
truly believe that we need to support the mom where she is at, but rather
because this piece was introduced as a "get your hankies out" type of story.
If the mom had come to me and said that this is how she was handling weaning
and she was sure that this was the way she wanted to handle it, that's fine.
But that was not the case. The only person I was tempted to "get my hankie
out" for was the child who clearly didn't want to wean.  The mother kept
saying how sad it was and how much she regretted the passing of the nursing
relationship - but it hadn't passed - she was ending it.  I couldn't feel
sorry for her misery, she had the option to continue and chose not to.
