"Lu" says:
All our babies are in the nursery from 6am until the pediatricians
round, or
9am, whichever comes first. Then, the babies go out at 9, but are
returned
to the nursery for the pedi visit if not seen in the am. It is
not ok to
keep a pedi waiting, so babies are literally popped off the breast
at a
moment's notice. We have a "choir" everyday also.

Why are the peds doing their exams in the nursery? It took a couple
a while to be comfortable, but now all our Peds examine the babies
in the rooms. It gives them a chance to discuss what they are doing
and do a lot of their parent education at the same time. They have
to go to the mom's room anyway to report on their exam or to discuss
when to bring baby in etc., so why not accomplish both things (the
exam and the talk with the parents) at the same time.
The one doc that resisted the longest gave the excuse, "But the
parents might ask me questions!" Geesh! He's in the wrong business
if you ask me.

Winnie
