> It's the baby's
bacteria, right? Point 3: Is there bacterial growth -- how much do the
antibacterial factors (macrophages, etc) contribute to engulfing and
decreasing the amount of bacteria in the milk IF there is salivary backwash
and IF there is a buildup of bacteria? Point 4: Is there any evidence
anywhere of a baby being harmed by drinking "left over" EBM?<

Jan, how many more years are we going to have to be discussing this stuff??
The picture that always comes to mind when we talk about this is-- the
pacifier
laying on the floor, in the dogs mouth, played with by other siblings and
then
put into the crying baby's mouth without even thinking twice. Yes, reused
breast
milk is being studyed, and Dr. Hamosh and the Breastfeeding Working
Committee
was suppose to come out with the recommendations that previously frozen
breast
milk may be given to the baby one more time if baby does not finish the
feeding.
We all are still patiently waiting. Meanwhile, I vote on giving the
healthy newborn
the milk. Do not forget the importance of mom washing hands before
pumping,
feeding the baby, etc.
