Hi Annelies & everyone

>Now my question: is there any research about the reasons why women wean
>their baby? I would like to investigate the issue.

Last week I visited an accredited Baby Friendly hospital in my state and
was shown their computer program and how they assemble their bf stats &
info. They only follow up the mothers for 6 weeks, however with a 91%
exclusive bf rate on discharge, the rate drops to 75% at that 6 week check.

This is a private hospital in an affluent area with most mothers being in
the late 20 to early 30's age group and almost all have supportive partners.
The most often given reason for ceasing breastfeeding (by an enormous
margin), is that the mothers "don't like breastfeeding". Unfortunately,
this reason is not explored further, but I do believe that it would make for
fascinating and useful research if someone did explore it.

Why don't they like it? Is it too time consuming? Do they feel tied down?
Are their pre birth expectations unreasonable? Does it hurt too much? Are
their partners unsupportive? Fascinating to ponder.
