, we wish to sincerely thank Barbara Wilson-Clay, Margery Wilson,
and Patricia Drazin for their information and advice. This has led us to
ask more questions and has given us the opportunity for further action.

In order to personalize this a little, and to explain my involvement, let me
briefly mention here that the mom in question is the LLL co-Leader of a good
friend of mine, who also happens to be a nutritionist. (My friend's the
nutritionist, if that sentence was unclear!) My friend is the person I
mentioned earlier with whom I am preparing for the IBLCE exam.

Now to answer some of the questions posed in the relevant posts: Dairy was
not reintroduced, and chicken and soy were also eliminated. While a definite
possibility, they do not believe viral enteritis is the culprit because
baby's white count has not been elevated, and because this entire tragedy has
now been ongoing for close to 4 months. All wheat, oats, rye, and barley
have been out of maternal diet for 10 days with no appreciable change. Stool
cultures have just recently been done; we're waiting for the results. I'll
let you know on that one. We'll ask about the color of the blood as well.
No vitamins, flouride, or cereal have been used at all. We'll definitely
ask again about the soaps, fabric softener, etc.

One thing I neglected to mention in my first post (because I was unaware of
this detail!) is that mom has been and continues to offer only one breast in
the manner suggested. This has never seemed to make a difference.

Upon closer examination of her diet, we noticed that some sources of gluten
have been in her diet: bullion(sp?) and possibly others. Mom is now slowly
adding back some foods - not dairy or some others that have seemed all along
to worsen the bouts of diarrhea - but is concentrating much more closely on
the gluten aspect. Thanks for the book recommendations.

My friend and fellow Leader Heidi C. Lunn, MS, has asked me to convey her
keen interest in learning more about Celiac's disease and the breastfeeding
infant. If anyone has actually seen this disease in a breastfeeeding infant
or has recommendations on where she can learn more, please consider e-mailing
her at: [log in to unmask]

We thank you again!
Blessings,
Regina Roig-Lane
