I'd be really interested to know if anyone has any thoughts on this:
A mother told me her consultant following her birth suggested that she should not breastfeed as she needed the oestrogen to help repair her cells as she had a lot of internal tearing. They prescribed her an oestrogen cream as she fortunately did want to breastfeed and is still breastfeeding two years later. She shared it with me really out of interest, but it is the first time I have heard of a mother being told this. I suggested to her that the survival of mother AND child is generally prioritised by natural selection so this would seem like a major design fault if it were the case!
Wondering if oxytocin plays a role here?
