Remember when you are quoting this study that it's for ANY breastmilk EVER.
While 70% are breastfeeding as leaving the hospital, 33 percent of those
are already supplementing -- greatly diminishing their returns. The media
is focussed on this first result, but the study also calculates a risk
of .62 for 3 months of ANY breastfeeding versus less or none (1 divided
by .62 gives 61% more likely do die if receiving only formula at 3 months).
Hopefully the next study will measure exclusive breastfeeding.
