I come upon this recomenndation alot in herbal books both old and new.  I
have come to believe from descriptions in the older books that "caked" quite
possibly may refer to nipple yeast.  Cider vineagar kills destroys yeast so
it would make sense for it to work in many cases.  I think more frequent
application might be necessary for more severe cases.
